  • Print

Cancatac is a remote rural barangay of Corella, a 5th class municipality situated in the interior part of Bohol with a population of 921. One reaches Cancatac through “habal-habal” or private vehicle passing through the rough barangay roads. Farming is the basic source of livelihood among its residents.

The elementary school is inadequately equipped to cater to teaching-learning experiences thus needing assistance through the adopt-a-school project.

The Teachers College has been tasked to take charge of the project implementation. It aimed to share the university’s resources and expertise to the pupils, teachers, and parents by introducing varied activities to enhance the teaching and learning environment in the school.

Conducted activities based on the results of the needs assessment included:

  1. child’s rights and responsible parenthood were given lecture to parents;
  2. teachers were trained on information communication technology (ICT) in teaching specifically on Microsoft Office application software suite;
  3. selected students underwent tutorials and mentoring; and
  4. leadership skills training and team building activities were provided to student leaders.

The college also organized the Child Rights Committee chaired by the Barangay Captain with the parents and teachers as members.
