UB AMT Grads Hurdle Structures Apprenticeship Program at APlus

A total of 17 graduates of the University of Bohol Aircraft Maintenance Technology (AMT) had successfully passed the 1st Structures Apprenticeship Program (SAP) of the Aviation Partnership of the Philippines (APlus) conducted last September 5, 2022, to March 5, 2023. In a graduation rite held on March 7, 2023, at the University of Bohol Victoriano D. Tirol-Advanced Learning Center (VDTALC) Mini Theatre, Peñaflor St., Tagbilaran City, the UB AMT alumni received their certificates of completion in time for their first day of employment at APlus. This is an offshoot of their exemplary performance as cadets during the apprenticeship program. Ms. Krizia Katrina Paras-Lapis, Director, Human Resources, made the official announcement in the presence of the parents and guardians of the 17 cadets. The apprenticeship program which is free of charge was conducted under the supervision of the APlus in its hangar in Manila.

Mr. Rico Ugdoracion, APlus General Manager and pioneering graduate of the UB AMT, Batch 1998, had pushed the idea of tapping graduates from the university to undergo an apprenticeship, and offer the opportunity for employment as a way of expressing gratitude to his Alma Mater. As a true-blooded Boholano from Albuquerque, Ugdoracion has been extending help to fellow UBians and province mates in the aircraft maintenance service industry.

APlus is a wholly-owned subsidiary company and the maintenance arm of the Cebu Pacific Air fleet. Formerly, it was partly owned by Singapore Airlines until Cebu Pacific decided to buy out their shares. Aside from the above minimum wages, Cebu Pacific personnel are all entitled to free airfare. The personal privilege extends to the immediate members of the family, once an employee is permanently employed. Presently, APlus is the largest aircraft maintenance provider in the Philippines.

For his part, UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol, III, expressed his thanks to the management of APlus for trusting the University of Bohol and for the employment of its graduates. The youthful president also expressed his gratitude to the parents, guardians, and other stakeholders for patronizing UB. He stressed the continuing thrust of the university in delivering quality education to its students through the accreditation of the different college programs.

Other personalities who attended the SAP graduation ceremony were, Ms. Ria Eva Sevilla, UB Vice President for Administration, Dr. Ma. Liezl Gallardo, OIC Dean, College of Engineering and Technology, Mr. Ramir Monje, Head, Aircraft Maintenance Head, and other APlus ranking officials to include, Mr. Gil Gatchalian, Structure Adviser, and Ms. Maria Luisa Villareal, Manager, Culture and People Development.
