UB holds Research Festival 2019

As part of its 49th Charter Day celebrations, the University of Bohol (UB), through its University Research Center, held a Research Festival with the theme “Health Research Utilization for Policy and Programmatic Implications” last December 12, 2019, at the UB Nursing Skills Laboratory.

The festival was funded by the Central Visayas Consortium for Health Research and Development (CVCHRD) under the auspices of its Adopt-A-Conference Program. The CVCHRD members include some of the renowned higher education institutions in the region as well as the regional offices of the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Science and Technology, National Economic Development Authority, and the Commission on Higher Education. The consortium acts as a coordinating body for Health Research and Development activities in the region. It also promotes the active involvement of institutions to pursue health research in the region.

Dr. Jonathan Neil V. Erasmo, Chief of the Local Health Support Division of the DOH Region VII Office, was the keynote speaker of the festival. Being a researcher himself, Dr. Erasmo lauded the University for holding such a timely and relevant research event. He stressed the academe's importance as a partner in DOH initiatives to promote the health and well-being of the people and local communities in the region through the conduct of research and development activities.

Among the studies presented during the festival were research by faculty researchers in the fields of Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Midwifery, Pharmacy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Psychology, and Mental Health. The presentation of the said studies occurred during the parallel sessions at the UB Nursing Skills Lab, UB – Information Resource Center, and Conference Room 2.

The festival served as an avenue to disseminate research findings to the dozens of stakeholders in attendance that can be used as inputs for policy-making and the crafting of programs. It is part of the University’s corporate social responsibility to move forward with the utilization of the research findings for concrete programmatic initiatives. It also served as a platform for academicians and professionals from multi and interdisciplinary interests to meet and interact with members within and outside their disciplines for possible research engagement and collaboration.
