UB prez delivers 2nd sem. “State of the University” update

The University of Bohol (UB) held the second of its bi-annual general assembly of employees last November 8, 2019, at the UB Gymnasium.

During the assembly, UB President Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol, III, delivered his State of the University Address for the Second Semester of School Year 2019-2020 before the members of the academic and administrative councils, faculty members and non-teaching employees. Dr. Tirol highlighted the increase of personnel benefits under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which was successfully negotiated by the University of Bohol - Union of Employees (UBUE) last August 2019.

He likewise thanked the departments who exceeded their enrolment target in the preceding semester and for surpassing the national passing rate in bar and board examinations. Dr. Tirol gave special mention to the recent feat of the College of Physical and Occupational Therapy (PT/OT) who produced the 8th placer in the person of Brian Klein V. Fernandez during the August 2019 Physical Therapy Examinations with a rate of 85.55% and for being listed by the Professional Regulation Commission as 14th among the 19 colleges and universities in the country with 20 and more examinees who obtained a weighted passing rate of 65 percent and above.

He also acknowledged the University Research Center (URC) for its part in the university, obtaining several research-based awards such as Outstanding Research Productivity Award and the 2019 Fr. Theodore Murnane Research Commitment Award in the preceding semester. He also recognized the URC’s role in the granting of Level 1 Research Ethics Committee accreditation to the university’s Research Ethics Committee (UB-REC).

Dr. Tirol likewise commended the university’s vice presidents namely, Dr. Lumin T. Pamaran, VP for Academics, Ms. Ria Eva M. Sevilla, VP for Administration, Dr. Maricel A. Tirol, VP for Finance, and faculty members, staff, and support services personnel for their roles during the PAASCU Resurvey Visit for the core programs of Liberal Arts, Elementary & Secondary Education, and Business Administration last October 10-11, 2019.

The youthful university president also reiterated the thrust of his administration for the University of Bohol to obtain CHED deregulated and autonomous status by the year 2024. Dr. Tirol again rallied the college deans and department heads to raise their bar of academic excellence by increasing their passing percentages in board/bar examinations. He re-echoed his call for all university personnel and employers to stand steadfast in their commitment to upholding the values of Scholarship, Character, and Service.

After the president's address, the vice presidents of the university took turns in giving updates and announcements from their respective offices.

UB’s general assembly of employees is usually scheduled during the first week of classes for a particular semester, in this instance, the 2nd Semester of School Year 2019-2020. The next one is scheduled for June 2020.
