UB-VDTALC’s stude writers reap awards in city division press confab

The student journalists of the University of Bohol – Victoriano D. Tirol Advanced Learning Center again showed off their journalistic chops during the recent City Division Schools Press Conference held last October 12, 2019, at the Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School.

Among the many winners in the elementary level were Ronesa Marie O. Sayon who won 3rd place in the Editorial Writing contest; Elioun P. Austral, who won 2nd place in the Copy Reading and Headline Writing contest; Amiel Franz S. Balaba, who won 2nd place in the Sports Writing contest; Arianna G. Omongos, who won 5th place in the Photojournalism contest category; Sierha Faye Genovia, who won 5th place in the Feature Writing contest; and Makysha M. Sevilla, who won 1st place in the Science and Technology Writing contest all in the English category.

Winning big in the Filipino category were Alessandra P. Marquez, Francis Daniel M. Maglente, Mary Agnes L. Cua, Zij Lloyd P. Pelayre, Erika Gaylle O. Chato, Kent Christian A. Lugo, and Noah L. Sumodobila of the Filipino Script Writing and Radio Broadcasting team who won 3rd place, while Athalia Jezka Karielle Magno won 2nd place in the Photojournalism category.

Not to be outdone by their younger counterparts, the high schoolers also bagged multiple awards at the secondary level. Among the winners were Zoe P. Austral, who won 1st place in the Copy Reading and Headline Writing contest; Timothy John A. Jala, who won 1st place in the Editorial Writing contest; Xianne Karyll J. Racho, who won 2nd place in the Editorial Cartooning contest; Jacobe Joaquin M. Sevilla, who won 2nd place in the News Writing contest; and Thea Jessica Jala, who won 1st place in the Feature Writing contest all in the English category.

In the Filipino category, Francine Marih R. Bibat, won 2nd place in the Editorial Writing contest; Zenn Rose L. Caguindangan, won 2nd place in the Science and Technology Writing contest; and Andrei Lex C. Pelaez, won 5th place in the Editorial Cartooning contest.

Meanwhile, Julia Faith C. Joaquin, Ma. Sharecca J B. Lubguban, Rhalf Mathieu I. Mangubat, Louriene Mae U. Canda, Ashley Gwynevere I. Hutchinson, and John Alexander T. Ursos of the English Script Writing and Radio Broadcasting team once again took home the 1st place award for the third year in a row, among many other special awards. The team also collected the awards for Best News Anchor, Best News Presenter, and Best in Technical Application.

As a result of their wins, the said students will be participating in the upcoming Regional Schools Press Conference to be held on November 26-29, in Mandaue City, Cebu.
