UBSSG bats for dengue awareness, env’t protection

As part of a continuing advocacy, the University of Bohol Supreme Student Government (UBSSG) recently conducted a USpeak activity on Dengue Awareness and Environmental Protection last July 24, 2019, at the UB Founders Lounge.

USpeak, which is a monthly activity, aims to spread awareness about a particular issue in the community and promote the students’ general welfare. It also aims to make them contributing citizens in their respective communities. It can be recalled that USpeak was started during the school year 2017-2018, under the administration of then UBSSG President Khristiane Benedict Loquias. Current UBSSG national officers led by President Samantha Lorraine Salaysay facilitated this month’s activity in tandem with the UBSSG officers from the Teachers College.

There were two main issues discussed during the hour-long event. Dr. Golda Olaivar, the physician of the UB Clinic, discussed the symptoms of dengue and how to prevent the spread of the disease. Meanwhile, Beryl Elizabeth Lupot touched on environmental protection, while also highlighting that plastics are considered to be the main reason for climate change. Participants were also given a chance to ask some questions concerning the said discussions.

The next USpeak about Social Media Literacy is scheduled for August 14, 2019, from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm at a venue to be determined.
