UB SPS Dean, SAO now certified student affairs specialists

Since its earliest days, the University of Bohol (UB) has always taken great pride in implementing programs and services for the holistic development of its students. Through the Student/Personnel Services (SPS) Office, UB aims for its students to attain optimal development of their potential and to become responsible community members.

One way to ensure that these programs and services being provided are achieving the desired outcomes is by investing in the people comprising the SPS so that they are fully capacitated in their areas of expertise.

To that end, two of the university's student affairs practitioners recently obtained the title of “Certified Student Affairs and Services Specialist” (CSASS) in the persons of Dr. Janice Aurora Tirol-Namoc, SPS Dean and Engr. Lemuel O. Belarmino, Student Affairs Office Head.

The two formally received their CSASS certifications in a graduation ceremony held in the University of Santo Tomas last July 13, 2019.

Dr. Namoc and Engr. Belarmino were able to obtain this coveted title after passing the PAASA - UST Student Affairs and Services Continuing Development Program (PAASA-UST SAS CDP) conducted by the UST Graduate School Center for Continuing Professional Education & Development (CCPED), in partnership with the Philippine Association of Practitioners of Student Affairs and Services (PAPSAS), Inc.

Successful passing of the program required them to complete fifty-six (56) hours attendance and comply with the requirements specified by the program facilitators including passing the certification examination and participation in the outcomes research study of the program.

As fully-fledged CSASS', Namoc and Belarmino now possess competencies in the following student affairs practitioner areas as identified by the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) – College Student Educators International and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA):

  1. Personal and Ethical Foundations
  2. Values, Philosophy, and History

Their participation in the said program was funded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) through its Continuing Professional Education Grant by virtue of CHED CMO NO. 72, Series of 2017.
