Rian Marco A. Tirol, a fresh graduate of the Ateneo de Manila Senior High School and former team captain of the UB Rockets Swimming Team is again in the limelight as he established a new record in Philippine swimming.
The Boholano swimmer displayed a tremendous performance in the finals of the 50m Breaststroke event in the recent 50th Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championship last March 19-24 at the OCBC Aquatic Center in Singapore with his new record time of 29.54 seconds breaking Jexter Janzen Chua's previous Philippine junior national record of 29.57 seconds. Tirol's new mark also eclipsed the 29.72 qualifying time class A (QTA) for the 2019 SEA Age Group Swimming Championship.
Tirol also had stellar performances in the 100m and 200m breaststroke in the same championship event, propelling him to the number one ranking in the entire Philippines for the boys 16-18 division. This ranking is not only for the 50m breaststroke but also includes the 100m and 200m breaststroke events.
The exploits of the new Philippines breaststroke king has secured him a spot on the national swim team that will represent the country in the 43rd SEA Age Group Swimming Championship to be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on June 28-30, 2019.
Also, Tirol's new record in the 50m breaststroke is also equivalent to 677 FINA points which could possibly clinch him a slot at the 7th FINA World Junior Swimming Championship in Budapest, Hungary on August 20-25, 2019. A minimum of 650 FINA points is needed for a national swimmer to qualify for the prestigious event.
