UB, SSKI co-host Ubay 1 st Mayor’s Cup in Karate-do

The University of Bohol College of Criminology and Sphinx Shotokan Karate-do International (SSKI) successfully hosted the 1ST Mayor’s Cup Karate-do Invitational Championship for a Cause 2017 on January 21 this year at Ramon Magsaysay gymnasium, Ubay Bohol.

With support from Municipal Mayor Constantino H. Reyes and Mrs. Josephine A. Angco, member of UB Karate-do Team, the karate sports was formally introduced in the municipality and formed part in the town’s fiesta activities. Ubay celebrated its fiesta last January 27, 2017 in honor of its patron saint Holy Child.

Karate-do is one of the major sports events in Philippine national games, PRISAA, Batang Pinoy under the Philippine Sports Commission program. It is likewise included during the Olympic games in Tokyo, Japan.

The Karate-do tournament was participated in by ASKS TISA -Cebu headed by Paulino Cabrera Sensei, LSKDC –Cebu headed by Victor Sanchez Shihan, ASK-Tacloban headed by Ramon Franco Kyosh, DKA-Bohol headed by Alberto Maranga Sensei, JKA-San Miguel headed by Francisco Dajunan Shihan, BNSC-Ubay headed by Francisco Dajunan Shihan, PKTS –Bohol headed by Expedito Dosdos Jr. Sensei, TKC –Talibon headed by Ernesto Cagay Sr. Sensei, SSKI-Tagbilaran (Holy Infant and University of Bohol DOJO) headed by Sonny Alvarez Sensei and PCI Jesus C. Acullador (Ret), dean of UB College of Criminology.

ASKS TISA -Cebu was declared the over-all champion followed by JKA San Miguel – 1st runner up, ASK Tacloban – 2nd runner up and DKA Bohol – 3rd runner up.

Although SSKI Team gathered 17 gold, 15 silver and 20 bronze medals, the team was not included in the over-all standing considering its status as the host team of the tournament.

Tournament Organizers Sonny Alvarez Sensei, chief SSKI instructor and Florencio Reyes, Shihan branch instructor donated 9 pieces of selling fan for Katarungan Elementary School in Ubay as part of outreach program of the host teams.
