Have you ever logged on to Facebook, seen a post, and been like, "Why the heck are you posting this online?" You could be reacting this way due to a friend's lovesick rant, or an embarrassing viral video, or worst of all, an old relative sharing a post that's rated R. You're pretty sure they have friends or followers online they wouldn't want to show those things to, so what are they thinking? Why is the irresponsible use of social media so rampant?

To answer this question, we need to look at what social media means to us nowadays. It's not just a passing fad, as one might have expected when it first started getting popular, but it has become a big part of our lives.


UB joins 1st ever care intervention for responders

In line with an umbrella project on humanitarian response, the University of Bohol - Community Extension Service through its Operation Tabang para sa UBan, conducted a Psychological First Aid (PFA) to the rescue and retrieval responders of the September 2018 landslide in Barangay Tinaan, Naga City, Cebu.

The intervention was conducted last October 7, 2018, in Cebu City and included responders from the cities of Naga, Cebu, Mandaue, and Toledo. Most of the participants had been working as rescue and retrieval responders for many years, but it was their first time to have received such an intervention.


Sec. Briones speaks at 155th UB grad rites

Department of Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones was recently in town as the guest speaker of the 155th Commencement Exercises of the University of Bohol held last October 23, 2018, at the university quadrangle.

Speaking before the newly-minted 410 graduates and various guests, the 78-year-old Negros Oriental native greeted the audience in the vernacular. In her opening, the secretary emphasized the importance of finishing a college degree as a weapon to meet the different challenges in the outside world. She encouraged the young professionals to teach in private schools amid the migration of teachers from the private sector to the public schools. UB hosts 2018 City Schools Press Confab

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol - Budding journalists from over 39 elementary and secondary in both public and private schools in Tagbilaran City, proved their journalistic mettle again as they convened for the annual Tagbilaran City Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) last October 15-16, 2018. This year's event which had the theme: "Fostering 21st Century Skills and Character-Based Education through Campus Journalism," was hosted by the University of Bohol for the first time.

Hannah Faith Cosmod, editor-in-chief of The Penmasters, the official student publication of the University of Bohol - Junior High School (UB-JHS) and El Niño Oliver Avelino hosted the opening program.
