UB Teachers College Holds Immersion Program

To capacitate themselves to be more effective and relevant in the teaching profession, select faculty members of the University of Bohol – Teachers College (UB-TC) recently participated in the immersion program of the said college.

This undertaking envisioned to capacitate the instructors of the said college as trainers of aspirants in the same profession. It also provided them with a new perspective on the teaching profession especially on the latest trends of teaching 21st-century learners, the current setup of the K to 12 basic elementary education and the total classroom organization and delivery.

The immersion program was initiated through the efforts of the UB-TC dean, Dr. Carolina O. Belarmino, in cooperation with key officials of the Tagbilaran City Schools Division led by City Division Superintendent, Dr. Neri Ojastro.

A few of the select faculty were immersed in the top five performing public elementary schools in the Tagbilaran City Division, namely Tagbilaran City Central Elementary School, Tagbilaran City East Elementary School, Dao Elementary School, Cogon Elementary School, and Manga Elementary School.

Meanwhile, three faculty members had their immersion in private schools, namely Royal Christian School, Holy Spirit School, and Milestones Child Development Center.

The program was strengthened through the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the University and the City Division as well as the aforementioned private schools in the presence of the UB-TC Dean, City Division Superintendent and other key officials of the DepEd together with the school heads of the participating elementary schools and the UB-TC faculty.

The immersed faculty members kept journals so they could record the knowledge and insights learned during each day of the observation period. These experiences were then reported during the allocated “sharing time” of faculty meetings so other instructors could also learn and benefit from such experiences.

Believing that "education is a continuous process," the support of the University and the dedication of the instructors has paved the way to providing quality education to the students. The immersion program has provided the said UB-TC faculty members first-hand experience and information and has equipped them with relevant skills, values, and knowledge.
