UB CET mentor wins best paper in Taiwan environmental confab

Engr. Marben O. Belarmino of the University of Bohol - College of Engineering and Technology (UB-CET) won the “Outstanding Paper” award for his study concerning renewable energy during the 2019 International Conference on Environment Quality Concern, Control and Conservation held last May 23-25, 2019 at Tainan & Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Belarmino, currently a Doctor in Engineering student at the University of San Carlos and fellow author Michael Lochinvar Abundo were able to determine in their study entitled: “A Preliminary Site Suitability Assessment for Potential Tidal Instream Energy: A Case Study in Surigao Straits, Philippines,” that the Rasa channel of Surigao Del Norte is the most feasible site for the extraction of tidal instream energy in the country.

Organizers cited the study’s innovativeness, effectiveness, and inspirational quality as the reasons why it took home the coveted prize.

Earlier this April, Belarmino, also a Commission on Higher Education (CHED) K-12 scholar, presented another study during the 1st International Conference in Science and Mathematics (ICSM 2019) at the Mindanao State University - Iligan.

The study was entitled: Hydrodynamic Modeling Evaluation of Tidal Instream Energy using DELFT3D: A Case study in the Gulf of Davao, Philippines, and a Poster Presentation of his study on Evaluation of Hydrokinetic-battery based hybrid system using dissimilar tidal instream turbines on optimization moreover, performance: a case study
