UB, MTRCB co-host responsible viewing forum

The University of Bohol (UB) together with the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) recently co-hosted a forum on intelligent and responsible family viewing titled “Para sa Matalino at Responsableng Panonood ng Pamilya Pilipino” last November 9, 2018, at the university gymnasium.

The said undertaking was aimed primarily to increase the media literacy and audience-sensitivity of the elderly and the youth, who are among the most impressionable sectors of society.

In her welcome address, VP for Administration Ria Eva M. Sevilla lauded the review and classification board for the conduct of the forum. She added that it is very timely and relevant as audiences are constantly exposed to a multitude of viewing options on television. While recognizing the thriving television industry as a hallmark of a vibrant democracy, Sevilla urged for more prudence and vigilance, especially from the younger generation. Younger audiences are said to be swayed easier by misleading information that is disseminated through various television shows and programs, hence, the need for responsible viewing. She further commended the efforts of the MTCRB in guiding the viewing public through their rating system.

The visiting MRCTB team consisted of indie filmmaker and producer Raymund Aquino, award-winning actress Gloria Sevilla, TV and movie actor Johnny Revilla, comedian and YouTube personality Marco “Bogart the Explorer” Ho, and renowned singer-songwriter and UB alumnus Luke Mejares.
