Sec. Briones speaks at 155th UB grad rites

Department of Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones was recently in town as the guest speaker of the 155th Commencement Exercises of the University of Bohol held last October 23, 2018, at the university quadrangle.

Speaking before the newly-minted 410 graduates and various guests, the 78-year-old Negros Oriental native greeted the audience in the vernacular. In her opening, the secretary emphasized the importance of finishing a college degree as a weapon to meet the different challenges in the outside world. She encouraged the young professionals to teach in private schools amid the migration of teachers from the private sector to the public schools. Citing the constitutional provision on complementarity or balance between private education and public education, Sec. Briones strongly recognized the specific role of the private education sector in education vis-à-vis with public schools.
