UB Lady Spikers Claim 2nd Startup Volley Title; Boys Team finish 2nd

The Junior Lady Volleybelles of University of Bohol (Team A) completed a perfect zero loss campaign as they fought hard to win the second installment of the Start-up Blitz Volleyball Tournament held at the University of Bohol Gymnasium last June 30-July 1 and July 7, 2018.

The Lady Lemurs were light on their feet and gave their all with their fiery spikes, blazing blocks and heavy digs outdueling the Lady Crusaders of the Holy Spirit School of Tagbilaran in a best of five sets Championship match. In an evenly-matched contest, both teams had their fair share of mistakes and errors, but the Lady Lemurs overcame them to come out on top.

The Lady Lemurs were guided from the sidelines by their able coach, Ms. Mary Fatima Cempron and led on the court by their team captain, Gena May Hora. Miss Hora was eventually named as the tournament Most Valuable Player along with the Best Scorer, Best Spiker, and Best Server awards.

In an earlier match, the Boys team finished in second place after bowing down in three sets to their archrivals from the Holy Name University.

The championship games presented a new environment for the high school teams of Tagbilaran City who experienced playing in a full-capacity gymnasium with a surprising UAAP-like atmosphere. During the tournament, the UB players also received individual accolades. Ms. Princess Joy Cruz was named Rookie of the Year, Hannah Melicor as Best Setter, Hennah Faye Pergamino as Best Libero, Girls category. Rovic Lot Cinconuegue also received the Rookie of the Year award and Roberto Junior Guillaume as Best Blocker for the Boys category.

The Legacy Startup Blitz Volleyball tournament is a community project of the University of Bohol Flying Lemurs Varsity Team that aims to help the youth of the City of Tagbilaran through the game of volleyball. The first of the Legacy Tournament series was organized by the UB college players led by Dr. Lemuel O.Belarmino, as a way of giving back to the community.
