UB-FLVT Hosts 1ST PVF National Referee Course

The University of Bohol Flying Lemurs Volleyball Varsity Team and the Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) in cooperation with the Bohol Schools Athletic Association (BSAA) and the City of Tagbilaran, successfully concluded the first National Referee Course for volleyball officiating officials in the province.

The rigorous four-day training and workshop was held at the University of Bohol (UB) Information Resource Center and Gymnasium last June 28 – July 1, 2018. Mr. Yul Benosa and Mr. Nestor Bello, both international volleyball referees and head volleyball officiating officials of University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), facilitated the said training and seminar. As the chairman of the Referees Commission of the PVF, Bello and Benosa discussed the updates of the rules of the game of volleyball and the proper techniques in applying them during games.

The organizers headed by Dr. Lemuel O. Belarmino, UB Flying Lemurs head coach and founder of Bohol Volleyball Association (BVA), accepted a limited number of participants only as an initial run for the development program. Thirty-seven participants from Bohol and neighboring provinces dutifully attended the day to day activities including the examination and actual demonstration of skills in a live tournament at the UB Gymnasium. The graded examination of the different skills in officiating the game made it more realistic and challenging for the participants. The passers received their PVF license after the evaluation.

The training is a community project of the University Varsity Players to further grow the game of volleyball in the province which is becoming more and more popular across the nation. The university believes in the role of sports in building a better community for everyone.
