UB and DOH forge partnership for Midwifery Scholarship Program

Thirty seven (37) Midwifery scholars of the DOH signed their scholarship contracts for the first semester of the school year 2018-2019 last June 14, 2018. The University of Bohol is the only university in Central Visayas that is CHED-accredited for Midwifery. Hence, UB was chosen by the DOH through its RO7 Health Human Resource Development Unit to be its partner for the Medical Scholarship Program in Midwifery.

The Department of Health (DOH) Secretary recently issued a memorandum requesting the facilitation of the Memorandum of Agreement between the DOH and the University of Bohol (UB) for the DOH Midwifery Scholarship. In line with this, the DOH-RO7 Health Human Resource Development Unit (HHRDU) headed by Nurse V Maria Chona M. Singco, represented by Rhea Nicole V. Arellano, RN, LPT, Monette L. Zuñiga, RN, Health Program Researcher and Nurse II Mario L. Natividad, the Scholarship Point Person made a courtesy call to UB President Dr. Ryan Tirol, College of Midwifery Dean Maria Lourdes B. Lanada and Prof. Sylvia C. Doron last June 14, 2018.


"The admission of scholars into the partner school shall be guided by respective partner schools’ selection criteria and admission policies. Likewise, selection criteria set by the program shall also be fulfilled" Natividad explained to the President.


The DOH Medical Scholarship Program aims to meet the goals and strategies of the Philippine Health Agenda (PHA) per Administrative Order No. 2016-0038 and the overall goals of the Universal Health Care (UHC) by: A. Making essential health services available and accessible to all Filipinos especially the poor and B. Promoting equitable distribution of HRH, and address the inadequate production of HRH coming from the different priority areas as a means of addressing inequitable distribution of HRH.


The 37 pioneering DOH - Midwifery Scholars of the University of Bohol for First Semester, SY 2018-2019 signed their contracts in the presence of the DOH-RO7 HHRDU representative, Dean Lanada and Prof. Doron of the UB College of Midwifery and Ms. Conchi Manhilot, the Scholarship and Employment Assistance Officer.
